Access statement For Thistleyhaugh Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast

Introduction
Being a listed building we are limited in the changes we have been able to make in creating access for all disability needs. Provisions that we have been able to make are set out in the following statement.

Pre-Arrival
We are in a remote location and a car is essential.
We are 2 miles from the main road and 4 miles from any village with local transport.
The local transport is a bus service which heads South to Morpeth and North to Rothbury and Thropton.
Local taxis are available and can be arranged with notice.
We have a an easy to follow website which includes a 360 degree tour of the house to give an idea of space.
We are contactable via phone/fax or E-Mail.
Directions and sample menus in large print can be sent on request

Arrival and Car Parking Facilities
Approaching the Farmhouse, there is a sign saying guest parking, this guides guests through a right hand turning which has white double gates onto a red gravel drive. Guests should follow the drive around to the front of the house. Someone will greet guests at the front door.
Outside the house there is ample parking on the red gravel but no marked bays.
Parking next to the front door is possible however there is one step to negotiate measuring 13cm onto an uneven stone doorstep, before reaching the front door.
We can assist guests with luggage.

Main Entrance into the House
The front door opens into the dining room with the stairs to all guest bedrooms directly in front. There is plenty of seating in the dining room.
The floor into the house is wooded and the dining room floor is carpet and wood.
The stairs to the guest rooms are carpeted with hand rails on both sides there are 14 stairs.

Public Areas
The dining room is on the same level as the entrance it is well lit and spacious there is one large table which seats up to 10.We serve dinner and breakfast to all guests at this table. The table has an under space of 70cm.
Adjoining the dining room to the left is the lounge and Garden room. The lounge is well lit and spacious the floor is carpeted. There is ample seating and furniture can easily be rearranged. Leading from the lounge is the Garden room which is again well lit with ample seating. The floor is tiled with under floor heating. There is a double door opening and stepping down onto the garden and drive. The step is 17cm high. A ramp for wheelchair access can be fitted if requested.
The Drawing room is to the right of the Dining room it is also well lit and spacious with plenty of seating. The flooring is wooden with a large covering of carpet. As with the lounge the furniture can be rearranged.

There is no background music played in any of the public areas downstairs.

Guest Bedrooms
Mary Room
Situated at the top of the stairs. This is a spacious room approx(5 metres by 5 metres) the king size bed is central to the room and there is ample access around the bed. There is comfortable seating in the room which can be rearranged or removed if necessary. The bedroom floor is carpeted.

The en-suite bathroom is (2m x 1m 80cm) the shower has a folding door and has a step up which is 23cms from the floor . The bathroom floor is tiled. A non-slip shower mat is provided and removable grab rails are also available. The shower cubicle is 800cm x 800cm. The basin height is 80cm from the floor.

Rose Room
Has a narrow corridor of 110cm wide leading to the bedroom. In the entrance there is a step up into the room 20cm in height. The room itself is spacious approx (5.5m x 5m) the king size bed is central to the room with ample floor space around the bed. There is comfortable seating in the room which can be removed or rearranged if necessary. The bedroom floor is carpeted.

The en-suite bathroom is a good size approx(2.5m x 3.0m) the bath is free standing at a height of 65cm from the floor and has a mixer tap with a hand held shower. Non slip mats are provided and removable grab rails are available. The basin height is 80 cms from the floor. The floor is tiled and has under floor heating.

Taylor room
This is a Twin bedded room, it is situated at the end of a long corridor measuring approx 5m 40cms in length and 1m in width. This room is one of our largest rooms at approx(5.5m x 5.5m). The beds are central to the room with good space around and between the beds. The room is very well lit with comfortable seating which can be rearranged or removed if necessary. The floor is carpeted.

The en-suite bathroom is the largest bathroom at approx(3m x 3m) it is well lit with spot lights. The room has a free standing bath which is 65cm in height from the floor. The bath has a fitted grab rail and non-slip mats. A separate double shower which measures 900mms x 1200mms has a folding door and a shower tidy for easy reach of toiletries. The step up from the floor measures 28cms. The shower cubicle has ample room for a shower seat which is available if required. The basin measures 82cm from the floor. The floor is tiled.

Hardy Room
At the entrance to this room there is a small lobby measuring approx 180cms x 140cms. The room itself is spacious at approx(5.5m x 5.5m) and well lit. The king size bed is central to the room with a comfortable sitting area to the left of the room. The furniture can be rearranged or removed if necessary. The floor is carpeted.

The en-suite bathroom is approx (2m x2m) it has a free standing slipper bath with over head shower. The lowest point of the bath is 55cms from the floor. Non slip mats are available and removable grab rails at request. The basin measures 78cms from the floor. The floor is tiled.

William Room
At the entrance to this room there is a small lobby measuring approx 180cms x 140cms. This is our smallest room at approx (3m 70cm x 3m 70cm) this serves as our single room but has a king size bed situated centrally in the room . There is reduced floor space around the bed . The chairs can be removed to give more space within the room.

The en suite bathroom measures approx(180cm x190cm) In the bathroom the shower door opens out the step into the shower measures 18cms. The cubicle measures approx (900mms x 900mms) it has a shower tidy for easy reach of toiletries and a non slip shower mat is provided. Removable grab rails are available if requested. Basin height is 78cms from the floor. The floor is carpeted.

Additional information
Additional steps can be provided to assist in the use of baths or showers.
We are a non smoking establishment.
We have a good fire system in place and all fire exits are well signed.
We do not allow dogs except guide dogs.
All rooms have Televisions , coffee and tea making facilities and fridges.
Guests are welcome to use our landline as mobile phone reception is restricted in this area.
Arrival time is 15.30 onwards and departure time is 10.30am. Any other times by advance arrangement.
We accept Credit/Debit cards, Cheque or cash.
